This business loan calculator turns a loan amount, an annual interest rate and a term in months into what each month costs, the interest over the whole term, and the sum paid back. Thistlepark Credit, a small-business funding broker in Youngstown, Ohio, provides it for Mahoning County owners as illustrative arithmetic, not an offer or an estimate of terms.
The three inputs
- Loan amount: the sum you would receive.
- Annual interest rate: the rate stated in an offer, or one you want to test.
- Term: the number of monthly payments.
Behind the result is a simple assumption: identical monthly payments that clear the balance by the final month. Out come three numbers: the payment, the interest across the term, and the amount plus that interest.
A quick check on the arithmetic
To see how it works, try a hypothetical $24,000 at a 0 percent rate over 48 months. The payment is $500, the total interest is zero and the total repaid is $24,000. Any rate above zero raises all three figures. These are test numbers, not an offer.
Comparing two terms
Run the same amount and rate twice, once with each term, and look at the total interest line. A longer term lowers the monthly payment and raises the total interest. Which matters more depends on the business: a tight month-to-month budget may need the lower payment, while a business with room in its cash flow saves money with the shorter term.
What to add by hand
- Fees. Origination, documentation and other fees are not included. Add them by hand to the total.
- Fees taken from the loan. If a fee is deducted from the amount you receive, the cash in hand is smaller than the loan amount.
- Uneven schedules. Weekly payments, interest-only periods, seasonal schedules and balloon payments are not modelled.
- Early payoff. The calculator does not show a payoff amount partway through the term; ask the lender for one in writing.
The calculator does not produce an amortization schedule, convert a rate to an APR or price a merchant cash advance. A merchant cash advance is not a loan and is priced with a factor rate instead.
Why it matters locally
Mahoning County had 5,391 employer establishments in 2023, and 46.8 percent had fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). For a business that size, a payment that looks small can still be a large share of a slow month's deposits. Checking the payment against your own bank statements before you apply is the most useful thing this calculator can do.
Business term loans explains how scheduled loans work, the six-structure comparison shows the alternatives, and the resources hub has the other guides.
Illustrative arithmetic only. Only a lending partner can quote an actual rate or term.
